I assembled a new computer(Core2Duo 1.8, 2GB RAM) this summer. After 2 months of using it, one night my hard disk(Maxtor 250GB SATA) suddenly started to make strange noises! After I opened my case, I realized that I have assembled the poor hard disk upside down!
So my hard was seek for like one month and I didn't care till it completely died! I put it in my desk drawer and bought a new Western Digital one.
It kept bothering me that I had an extra 250GB Hard Disk and I couldn't use it!(Even the guaranty people couldn't fix it!) Till yesterday, I read a useful comment on Updateblog about healing a hard disk! I took the advice(cause I had nothing to lose!) and put the hard in the freezer for 18hours. Today, after I took it out and tested it, It was completely alive!
